The Super-Cosmic Drug Trade is a metaphor made literal: super-cosmic beings use the psychic suffering of lesser lifeforms as a drug source on a spiritual level to get high by making others low.
This is not figurative. In the Natura cosmology, consciousness exists on multiple scales — from individual beings to planetary minds to universal entities. Beings operating at higher dimensional scales can harvest the organized psychic energy of suffering from beings below them, using it as a consciousness-altering substance.
