Sacred Geometry
Sacred Geometry is the study (and contemplative practice) of geometric forms — particularly those exhibiting symmetry, ratio, or recursive structure — held within multiple cultural and esoteric traditions to encode metaphysical, cosmological, or spiritual significance.
Forms and Sources
Sacred-geometry corpora include:
- Platonic solids — the five regular convex polyhedra (tetrahedron, cube, octahedron, dodecahedron, icosahedron), associated in Plato's Timaeus with elements and cosmos.

Mainstream Engagement
Mainstream mathematics and natural science engage geometric form in several ways:
- Crystallography and symmetry groups classify geometric structures with mathematical rigour.
- Biological pattern formation (phyllotaxis, branching, packing) produces specific geometric regularities for specific mechanistic reasons.
- Mathematical aesthetics studies why certain forms appear "beautiful" or "harmonious"; this is contested but not pseudoscientific.
Mainstream does not assign metaphysical significance to geometric forms beyond their mathematical and empirical content. The mainstream stance is that observed regularities (golden ratio appearances, recurrent symmetries) admit mechanistic explanations and do not require additional metaphysical framework.
