Modality refers to the manner or mode in which something exists, is experienced, or is expressed. In various contexts, modality can relate to the way in which actions, conditions, or events are perceived or enacted. In grammar, modality often refers to the use of modal verbs to express necessity, possibility, permission, or obligation. In astrology and other metaphysical systems, modality describes the nature of signs or elements as being Mutable, Fixed, or Cardinal, each indicating a different mode of action or expression.
