Metal Candles are early-stage energy generation devices — hot-burning thermite candles that generate a massive amount of heat in a very short time, which is then harvested for power. They represent the precursor technology that evolved into Pop Cells.
Design
A Metal Candle is a compact thermite-composition candle. When ignited:
- The thermite reaction produces extreme temperatures (2,500°C+)
- A thermoelectric or magnetohydrodynamic converter captures the thermal energy
- The captured energy is delivered as electrical power to the suit or device
- The candle burns out rapidly, leaving inert slag
Role
Metal Candles filled the same role that Pop Cells now serve — emergency one-time-use energy packs. They were the early answer to "how do you get a massive burst of power in the field without a fusion reactor?"
As Micro Fusion technology matured, Metal Candles were superseded by more advanced Pop Cell variants, but they remain available as a low-tech fallback — they work anywhere, require no advanced manufacturing, and are dead reliable.
