UFO Cover-Ups

Canonical incidents
Roswell Incident (July 1947, New Mexico). Initial press release described "flying disc" recovery; revised within 24 hours to weather-balloon explanation. Final official explanation (1994 Air Force report) attributes recovery to Project Mogul balloon. Cluster reads original press release as accidental disclosure; mainstream reads as initial misidentification.
Kenneth Arnold sighting (June 1947, Mount Rainier). Pilot reported nine objects flying in formation; gave rise to "flying saucer" terminology. Treated as authentic anomalous sighting by both cluster and mainstream; no cover-up claim specific to this case.
Washington flap (July 1952). Multiple radar contacts over Washington D.C.; press conference followed. Cluster reads dismissal as cover-up; mainstream reads as inversion-layer radar artefacts.
Tehran incident (September 1976). F-4 fighters intercepted UAP; reported instrument failures during interception. Documented in DIA report obtained via FOIA. Cluster reads as documented case requiring acknowledgement; mainstream treats as unexplained but inconclusive.
Rendlesham Forest (December 1980, UK). US Air Force personnel at RAF Bentwaters reported lights and a possible craft in forest. Multi-witness; physical-effects claims (radiation, soil disturbance) contested. Cluster reads as covered-up landed-craft event; mainstream treats as inconclusive.
Belgian Wave (1989–1990). Sustained multi-witness UAP reports over Belgium with simultaneous radar-confirmation. Belgian Air Force engaged openly with public discussion. Treated by both cluster and mainstream as authentic anomalous-phenomena episode; cover-up claim weaker than in other cases.
Phoenix Lights (March 1997). Two distinct phenomena over Arizona: a V-shaped formation of lights observed over wide area, and a later stationary-lights display attributed to military exercises. Cluster treats the first phenomenon as unexplained craft; mainstream remains divided.
Nimitz / Tic Tac (November 2004). US Navy aviators (Fravor, Underwood, Dietrich) encountered AAV (anomalous aerial vehicle); FLIR1 video declassified 2017. Documented; mainstream and cluster agreement that the event occurred and is unexplained.
GIMBAL / GO FAST (declassified 2017). Additional Navy FLIR videos. Cluster reads as evidence of continued AAV activity; AARO 2024 report attributes some to known phenomena.
Mechanisms in claimed cover-ups

- The pattern of "initial accurate report → revised explanation" can reflect both genuine reconsideration on better information and genuine cover-up; distinguishing requires case-specific analysis.
