Scope of the Hypothesis

The hypothesis admits multiple strength-grades, which are best engaged separately:

1. Weak form. Conscious attention or intent biases probabilistic processes at small magnitudes (PEAR-style random event generator experiments, Global Consciousness Project correlations).
2. Moderate form. Conscious intent influences biological systems at distance (intercessory prayer studies, distant-healing studies).
3. Strong form. Conscious intent influences macroscopic physical systems substantially (psychokinesis claims, collective-intent experiments).
4. Cosmological form. Consciousness participates in the constitution of physical reality itself (participatory universe, observer-dependent collapse interpretations).

Mainstream Engagement

• Weak form. The PEAR laboratory at Princeton ran for 28 years and reported statistically significant but tiny effects; the Global Consciousness Project continues to report correlations between large-scale collective events and random-event-generator output. Mainstream physics and statistics communities are divided on whether these effects survive rigorous methodology; meta-analyses exist on both sides.
• Moderate form. Meta-analyses of intercessory-prayer studies are mixed; methodological quality varies; the largest well-controlled studies report null results.
• Strong form. No rigorous controlled study has established macroscopic psychokinesis.
• Cosmological form. Some interpretations of quantum mechanics (von Neumann-Wigner) assign a role to consciousness in measurement; most interpretations do not.

The cluster position varies by practitioner. The intellectually serious posture is to:

• Distinguish the strength-grades and engage each separately.
• Take the weak form as an open empirical question, neither established nor refuted by current evidence.
• Take the strong form as unsupported by current rigorous evidence.
• Treat the cosmological form as a metaphysical / interpretive question rather than an empirical one.

Quality-of-Engagement Discriminators

• Effect-size honesty. Reported effects in the weak form are extremely small (z-scores on the order of 1-3 over tens of thousands of trials). The cluster should not present these as if they support the strong form.
• Multiple-comparisons hygiene. Cluster reports often select for the best-correlated event-window; pre-registration matters.
• Mechanism specificity. "Consciousness influences physical events" without specifying mechanism is unconstrained; specific mechanism proposals (quantum-collapse, EM-field coupling, etc.) are more engageable but also more falsifiable.
