A Phasic Drive is a device that enables phasing through walls and other solid matter by shifting the user's physical state to an alternate matter-phase. While Warp Cores manipulate spacetime geometry and Hyper Drives access hyperspace, Phasic Drives operate on the substance of matter itself — making it pass through other matter.

Mechanism

The Phasic Drive shifts the user (and optionally their equipment) into an alternate phase state where:

  • Normal matter becomes non-solid — the user passes through walls, floors, and obstacles
  • The user remains visible but translucent (or invisible, depending on configuration)
  • The phase state is temporary — the drive must maintain active power to sustain it
  • Deactivation returns the user to normal matter-phase instantly

Applications

  • Infiltration — passing through walls, barriers, and fortifications
  • Evasion — becoming intangible to physical attacks
  • Emergency escape — phasing out of traps, collapses, or containment
  • Tactical positioning — moving through obstacles to reach optimal positions

Limitations

  • Power-intensive — maintaining phase state draws significant energy
  • Vulnerability — phased users may be vulnerable to energy-based or psionic attacks that operate on the same phase
  • Duration — limited by power supply; cannot maintain phase indefinitely
  • Disorientation — extended phase states can cause perceptual disturbance

Related Technologies

  • Warp Cores — bend spacetime (different approach to obstacle bypass)
  • Glitch Tech — creates reality errors (can achieve similar pass-through effects via "glitching")
  • Fusion Wings with Glitch-Hop architecture — wing-based phasing capability
