Practice-to-Theory Translation Table

Audience

Difficulty Beginner

This page is a single side-by-side reference for the practitioner asking, "What is the present framework's interpretation of this traditional concept?". It is the operational complement to Map_of_Traditions (which surveys traditions in breadth) and the explanatory complement to Chakras_as_Resonant_Modes / Meditation_as_Coherence_Engineering (which work through one or two specific concepts in depth).

The framework does not claim that practitioner concepts reduce to physics — only that they refer to physical phenomena which the framework also describes from a different vantage point. For the philosophical position on this, see the closing section.

The translation table

Practitioner term ψ-framework interpretation Caveat
Prana / Qi / Chi / Ki / Mana The ψ field itself; specifically its amplitude and flow. Not identical to oxygen, blood flow, or bioelectricity. These are all real and important but distinct.
Aura Near-field envelope of ψ around a person; the Ψ ≡ T00(ψ) energy-density profile around the body. Visible "aura" reports often correspond to dark-adapted retinal afterimages plus genuine biophoton emission. The ψ component is real but not optically visible.
Chakras Body-localised ψ standing-wave modes. See Chakras_as_Resonant_Modes. Anatomical locations are approximate. Exact frequencies / mode counts are not yet measured.
Meridians / nadis Preferred ψ-flow channels; correlate with low-impedance pathways in connective tissue (Becker 1985) and bioelectrically-active fascial planes. The 1:1 mapping between traditional meridians and anatomical structures is approximate; some meridians track nerve plexuses, others track lymphatic / fascial planes.
Pranayama / breath control Coupled autonomic-cortical-respiratory entrainment; drives the brain-ψ source coherently at sub-Hz frequencies. Effective regardless of belief; works through the Wilson-Cowan + ψ coupling.
Mantra / chant Frequency-selective coherent firing pattern; pumps ψ in a narrow band. Different bija sounds drive different cortical regions and therefore different ψ-modes.
Mudra (hand posture) Modifies body boundary conditions for the ψ standing-wave structure; small but real shift in resonant geometry. Effect is small; primary value is attentional / kinaesthetic anchor.
Visualisation / yidam Sustained high-dimensional cortical pattern; sources a spatially-structured ψ field. Resolution of the resulting ψ pattern is finite; high-detail visualisations are not 1:1 ψ holograms.
Mantra repetition (japa) Coherent firing accumulated over time → constructive ψ-amplitude build-up. Bose-statistics-like coherent build-up means many repetitions do have a cumulative effect, not just a behavioural-conditioning one.
Kundalini awakening Bifurcation of the brain-ψ coupled system; β crosses critical value; system enters new attractor regime. Genuinely physical, genuinely possible, genuinely dangerous without preparation.
Samadhi / jhana / nirodha Cortical operating point at a deep attractor of the coupled neural-ψ system; integrated information Φ extremised; conscious order-parameter C strongly broken. Different attractors correspond to different jhana descriptions; the framework does not yet predict which neural geometry gives which subjective level.
Sat-chit-ananda / clear light Hypothesised limiting state of the ψ phase where C-field is fully ordered and minimally noisy. Highly speculative; sits at the edge of what the framework can describe.
Energy healing (Reiki, Pranic, Therapeutic Touch) Practitioner-generated coherent ψ field directed at a recipient; modulates recipient's ψ amplitude in specific anatomical regions. Effect-size is modest above placebo in the controlled literature; framework is consistent with that profile.
Distant healing / prayer Long-range ψ propagation (range set by 1/m of the Yukawa); modulated by group coherence (N4). Range and amplitude limited by ψ mass; effect-size decays with distance and increases with sender coherence.
Spirit guide / Ishta-devata / archangel Persistent cognitive pattern in the practitioner's neural-ψ system (egregore-class soliton); may carry information accumulated across the practitioner's social-cognitive field. The framework does not commit to ontological status of guides. It describes the physics; the metaphysics is the practitioner's.
Egregore / tulpa / thought-form Self-sustaining ψ soliton supported by ongoing group attention. See Soliton_Solutions_of_Psi_Field. Decays without sustained attention; not autonomous in the strong sense.
Astral body / etheric body Coherent ψ structure correlated with the physical body but separable in localised events (OBE-class). Mechanism speculative; data is suggestive but not conclusive.
Akashic records Long-lived cosmological ψ background carrying integrated history of biological-cognitive activity. Highly speculative; the framework permits but does not require such a structure.
Ley lines / sacred sites Regions of enhanced background Ψ from accumulated historical biological-cognitive activity, possibly amplified by underlying geomagnetic / geological features. Some sites also have ordinary geomagnetic or piezoelectric anomalies; separating contributions is an open empirical question.
Auspicious times (solar/lunar/astrological) Variations in solar wind, geomagnetic activity (Kp index), and Schumann_Resonance amplitude that change ambient ψ background. See Geomagnetic_Field; correlations established in PEAR_Program and Global Consciousness Project data.
Karma (operational, not metaphysical) Persistence of practitioner-specific ψ-coupled cognitive patterns across time. No claim about reincarnation or moral judgement — only about pattern persistence.
Chi kung emission (wai qi) Externally-radiated ψ field from a trained practitioner; measurable in some studies (Lin & Chen 1989) Effect-size small; instrumentation challenging.
Synchronicity (Jung) Coincidence of events whose joint probability is elevated by a shared ψ-coupled cognitive context. Subjective salience and confirmation bias also play a role; the framework only adds an ψ-coupling channel on top of standard cognitive science.

How to use this table

  1. As a practitioner — find your tradition's term in the left column. Read the middle column to see what (if the framework is correct) you have been working with all along. Read the right column to keep the translation honest.
  2. As a physicist — use the right column to flag where the framework makes empirical commitments that could be tested or falsified.
  3. As a sceptic — note that every entry comes with a caveat. The framework does not claim certainty; it claims a coherent hypothesis with falsifiable consequences.

What the table is not

  • It is not a claim that the traditional concepts have always been understood correctly by every tradition. Different traditions disagree internally; the framework does not adjudicate those disagreements.
  • It is not a claim that ψ-physics replaces the traditional understanding. The frameworks operate at different layers. A traditional Tibetan account of tummo (inner-fire meditation) is rich, embedded, lineage-transmitted; the physics account is sparse, structural, and falsifiable. Both are valid descriptions at their level.
  • It is not a recipe. Knowing the physics does not produce the practice. The traditions developed and transmitted how to do it over millennia. Reading this table will not give a reader the skill.
