Universal Biology

Universal Biology is the Universal Language sub-system applied to living systems. Life is the expression of UL structures that self-replicate, self-modify, and self-reference — a living organism is a UL expression that writes more UL expressions.

Overview

In UL theory, biology is not separate from physics or mathematics — it is what happens when UL structures become complex enough to reproduce themselves. The transition from chemistry to biology is the transition from static UL expressions to self-modifying ones.

Life as UL Self-Reference

A living system, in UL terms, is an enclosure that contains its own description:

Where ${\mathcal {E}}$ is an enclosure, $S$ is the structure (the organism), and $F(S)$ is a function embedded within the enclosure that modifies $S$ over time.

This is precisely the definition of self-referencing meaning-geometry — which is also the UL definition of consciousness. Biology is the material substrate; consciousness is the informational consequence.
