Nuclear Fission
Type Nuclear reaction / energy source
Principle Splitting heavy atomic nuclei to release energy
Key Application Fission Core — the heart of the Fusion Engine Suit
Relationship to Fusion Complementary; fission provides baseline power, fusion provides peak output

Nuclear Fission is the process of splitting heavy atomic nuclei (such as uranium or plutonium) into lighter nuclei, releasing significant energy. In the Fusion Girl setting, fission technology is fundamental to Tho'ra power systems — most critically the Fission Core.

Principle

When a heavy nucleus absorbs a neutron, it can become unstable and split into two or more lighter nuclei, releasing:

  • Kinetic energy of the fission fragments
  • Neutrons (which can trigger chain reactions)
  • Gamma radiation

This chain reaction, when controlled, provides a steady, reliable energy output — the foundation of the Fission Core.

Tho'ra Applications

Fission Core

The Fission Core is the most important fission application in Tho'ra technology. Mounted at the lower-back center of the Fusion Engine Suit, the Fission Core:

  • Provides baseline continuous power for all suit systems
  • Operates as the steady "heartbeat" while Flash Cells handle peak loads
  • Enables the suit's naturally-aspirated firing sequence

Relationship to Fusion

Fission and fusion are complementary in Tho'ra engineering:

Property Fission Fusion
Process Splitting heavy nuclei Combining light nuclei
Fuel Heavy elements (uranium, etc.) Light elements (hydrogen isotopes)
Tho'ra Application Fission Core (baseline power) Micro Fusion Flash Cells (burst power)
Stability Very stable, continuous High output, cycled
Role in Suit Foundation Peak performance

The Fusion Engine Suit uses both — fission for reliability, fusion for power — hence the name Fusion Engine Suit describes the philosophy of combining systems, not just the nuclear reaction.
