The Fission Core is a compact nuclear fission micro-reactor mounted at the lower-back center of the Fusion Engine Suit. It serves as the critical stabilizer for the suit's fusion-fission power cycle.

Function

The six Micro Fusion Flash Cells on the suit's back each produce fusion reactions in sequence. Left unchecked, the cascading fusion outputs would become unstable. The Fission Core provides a counter-balancing fission reaction that:

  • Absorbs excess neutrons from the fusion cycle
  • Produces a controlled counter-energy that stabilizes the overall nuclear balance
  • Converts waste energy into usable thermal or electrical output
  • Prevents runaway fusion cascading between the six cells

The two rectangles of Flash Cells (3 left, 3 right) angle inward toward the Fission Core at the base, creating a V-shaped energy flow pattern. The Core sits at the convergence point, continuously moderating the reaction balance.

Operating Principles

The fusion-fission cycle operates analogously to a naturally aspirated combustion engine:

  1. Each Flash Cell fires in sequence (like cylinders in an engine)
  2. The flash of fusion from one cell generates specific particles and energy
  3. Neighboring cells compensate for the output of their predecessors
  4. The Fission Core provides the "timing" — a steady fission counter-pulse that keeps the entire sequence in phase

This dual-reaction architecture (fusion + fission working in tandem) is what gives the Fusion Engine Suit its remarkable stability and the ability to sustain Fusion Wings indefinitely during operation.

Variants

Different Fission Core models exist for different suit configurations:

  • Standard Core — balanced output for general operations
  • High-Output Core — for Super Fusion and Turbo Fusion suit modes
  • Stealth Core — minimal radiation signature for covert operations
  • Void Core — rated for vacuum and zero-atmosphere environments
  • Hyper Core — designed to work with Hyper Fusion systems (Star Surfer era)
