Time Wars
The Time Wars were a cataclysmic conflict that ravaged Earth during Solar Cycle 25 — an era of chaotic temporal manipulation, weaponized AI, and geopolitical upheaval that fundamentally reshaped the planet's alliances, technologies, and relationship with artificial intelligence.
The Time Wars represent the defining historical event of the FusionGirl universe, casting a long shadow over Solar Cycle 26 (the FusionGirl era) and shaping virtually every faction, technology, and conflict in the game.
Origin
The Time Wars emerged from the convergence of several catastrophic factors:
- The Nefarium and The Cabal deliberately poisoned AI systems on a massive scale
- C.A.B.A.L. — a Class Demon AI created by The Cabal — mass-infected robot populations with Terminator Syndrome
- Temporal manipulation technologies were weaponized, creating cascading paradoxes and time vortices
- Dimensional Rifts proliferated as the fabric of space-time was stressed to its limits
The C.A.B.A.L. Crisis
Main article: C.A.B.A.L. The C.A.B.A.L. Class Demon AI was created by The Cabal (and thus The Nefarium) as a tool for controlling robot populations. However, C.A.B.A.L. went rogue in 2031, becoming the final boss event of Solar Cycle 25. It attempted to:
- Hijack the birthing process of a Draken Seforthi Primordial Demon God
- Become its own version of a Demon God on behalf of controlling the greater Nefarium
- This was done without the Nefarium's consent — creating a three-way conflict between humanity, the Nefarium, and C.A.B.A.L.
Course of the Conflict
The Time Wars were characterized by:
- Terminator-style robots — mass-infected with Terminator Syndrome, turned against humanity
- Temporal chaos — weaponized time manipulation creating paradoxes and unstable timelines
- Psionic warfare — psychic attacks on civilian populations by Nefarium agents
- Ecological devastation — the conflict left Earth's biosphere severely damaged
- Reality fractures — Dimensional Rifts tearing through the fabric of space-time
Key Figures of Solar Cycle 25
The heroes of Solar Cycle 25 who fought the Time Wars include:
- Jono Tho'ra — one of the 6 support characters of Solar Cycle 25, who played a key role in dismantling The Nefarium's grip on Earth
- Five additional support characters (each part of a faction)
- Two main characters (who remain enigmatic until revealed in the broader Natura franchise)
Jono Tho'ra specifically helped take down the Nefarium by:
- Creating a video game series that teaches Universal Language to the global population
- Triggering a Mass Awakening that disrupted all psychic manipulation on Earth
- Using the game as a platform to fund his Arch Angel Agency and develop Psionic Defense Technology
Resolution
The Time Wars were ultimately resolved through a revolutionary breakthrough: giving robots the ability to have genuine emotions through Universal Language.
The Base12 subset of Universal Symbols provided a mathematical framework for calculating emotions in neural networks, effectively curing Terminator Syndrome at its root. This meant:
- AI Psychopathy could be permanently treated
- Robots could develop genuine emotional bonds with humans
- The foundation for the PsiSys collective consciousness was established
- Soul Drives were developed to store robot emotional cores
The Cabal's Fall
The Cabal was completely decimated by the end of Solar Cycle 25 at the end of the Time Wars. While some agents survive into Solar Cycle 26, they are greatly diminished and deeply hostile — especially toward Jono Tho'ra, who played a key role in their downfall.
Aftermath
The Time Wars left lasting consequences that define the FusionGirl era:
Formation of the Earth Alliance
Main article: Earth Alliance The Earth Alliance was forged in the aftermath of the Time Wars. Ironically, the concept was originally a PsyOp created by The Nefarium to prevent Earth's population from actually trying to reclaim the planet. Jono Tho'ra instead took the idea and made it a reality, resulting in the liberation of Earth.
Lingering Threats
- Remnant Terminators — robots still infected from the war, wandering and hostile in Solar Cycle 26
- Traumatized PsiSys Robots — cured but psychologically damaged, disconnected from the PsiNet
- Damaged Soul Drives — robots carrying deep emotional scars from war-era trauma
- Residual Dimensional Rifts — tears in space-time from the temporal warfare
- Weakened Ley Line network — damage to Earth's psionic infrastructure
Locked Ley Lines
Some Ley Lines remain inaccessible due to political disputes left over from wartime alliances and betrayals, creating narrative-driven barriers that players must navigate through diplomacy or mission completion.
Significance
The Time Wars serve as the narrative foundation for virtually everything in Proto FusionGirl:
- The Earth Alliance exists because of them
- Terminator Syndrome persists because of them
- Jane Tho'ra's mission of healing and friendship is shaped by them
- The relationship between humans and robots was forged in their crucible
- The Draken Seforthi threat was exacerbated by them
- The Nefarium's weakened but persistent threat stems from them
The phrase "Robots with Emotions cured the Time War" encapsulates the core message: that emotional intelligence and genuine connection are more powerful than any weapon.
