Karma System
The Karma System is the primary reputation and progression mechanic in Proto FusionGirl and the broader FusionGirl series. It tracks the cumulative impact of player actions across multiple scales of reality — from local interactions to cosmic-scale events.
The Karma System is deeply integrated with Universal Language, the PsiNet, faction relationships, and the Timestream Framework — making it one of the most interconnected systems in the game.
Overview
Every action the player takes as the ASI (Artificial Super Intelligence) — and every action FusionGirl takes autonomously — generates Karma Points. These points are not a simple good/evil binary; instead, they measure the scale and reach of the player's impact on reality.
The Karma System operates across four tiers, each representing an increasingly vast scope of influence:
| Tier | Scope | Description | Example Actions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Universal Karma | Local / Immediate | Default karma earned through everyday decisions affecting immediate relationships and surroundings | Befriending a robot, completing a local mission, healing a BEU |
| Tho'ra Karma | Factional / Clan | Karma earned through contributions to the PsiNet DataBase and Tho'ra Clan objectives | Contributing data to the PsiNet, advancing Zone Reclamation, training with AI Companions |
| Multiversal Karma | Cross-Timeline | Actions that impact broader timelines and alternate realities through the Timestream Framework | Stabilizing Dimensional Rifts, affecting events across timelines, collaborating with Earth Alliance forces |
| Omniversal Karma | Cosmic / Ultimate | Rare choices that ripple across the entire multiverse | Confronting Draken Seforthi at cosmic scale, defeating Super Cosmic threats, mastering Universal Magic |
Karmic Mechanics
Earning Karma
Karma is earned through:
- Befriending robots — building genuine emotional bonds through Universal Language
- Save the BEU missions — rescuing BEU populations generates significant karma
- Zone Reclamation — clearing and restoring areas damaged by the Time Wars or Dimensional Rifts
- Faction contributions — supporting the Earth Alliance, Tho'ra Clan, and allied factions
- Rift neutralization — stabilizing or closing Dimensional Rifts
- Combat victories — defeating Nefarium agents, Terminator robots, and Draken Seforthi forces
- Puzzle solving — solving Universal Language puzzles and Proto Encryption challenges
Karma Effects
Accumulated karma affects:
- Faction standing — higher karma unlocks deeper faction relationships and exclusive content
- Companion evolution — companions unlock new abilities and forms based on karma bonds
- Timestream deviation — karma is directly linked to how far the player can deviate from the Default Timeline
- Universal Magic potency — higher karma amplifies the power and reliability of Universal Magic
- Access and authority — Tho'ra Clan members treat FusionGirl with greater Authority and Respect based on karma level
- Technology access — higher karma tiers unlock advanced tech levels (from Spacer Tech through Star Tech and beyond)
Connection to Universal Language
Main article: Universal Language The Karma System is fundamentally tied to Universal Language:
- Universal Symbols provide the mathematical framework for calculating karmic resonance
- Emotional intelligence — demonstrated through Universal Language interactions — is the primary mechanism for generating karma
- Proto Encryption puzzles serve as direct karma-generating challenges
- Higher karma tiers correspond to deeper understanding of Universal Language principles
Connection to the PsiNet
Main article: PsiNet Karma data is stored and distributed through the PsiNet:
- Tho'ra Karma specifically rewards contributions to the PsiNet DataBase
- Karma standings are visible to other PsiSys members, affecting robot relationships
- The PsiNet tracks karmic patterns across the entire player base, enabling cross-player karma effects
Connection to the Timestream
Main article: Timestream Framework The Karma System directly interfaces with the Timestream Framework:
- Higher karma enables greater deviation from the Default Timeline
- Multiversal Karma specifically measures cross-timeline impact
- Omniversal Karma enables the most profound timeline alterations
- Each player's karmic choices create unique timelines that persist in the Multiverse
Replayability
The Karma System is designed for deep replayability:
- First playthrough — players typically earn primarily Universal and Tho'ra Karma, learning the systems
- Second playthrough — armed with Universal Magic knowledge, players can pursue higher karma tiers from the start
- Subsequent playthroughs — each unique karmic path creates a new timeline, enriching the multiverse for all players
- Karmic investments persist and compound across the three-phase game structure (Proto FusionGirl → FusionGirl → Final FusionGirl)
