Magic in the Natura universe is not a vague supernatural force — it is a structured system operating through Universal Language. Magic is, in practical terms, the cheat codes to the universe — expressions of Universal Language that alter reality when spoken, inscribed, or channeled with sufficient understanding and intent.

Overview

All magic in the Natura universe operates through Words of Power — which are expressions of Universal Language. The distinction between "magic" and "technology" in this universe is one of method, not substance. Both access the same underlying reality (Universal Language) through different paths.

On Canorbius, Universal Magic is normal — everyone wields the natural elementals. Where Earth-based characters must learn and formalize Universal Language, on Canorbius it is as natural as breathing.

The Mathematical Foundations

Magic's structure maps to three interlocking mathematical bases derived from Universal Language:

  3. Lust — Attraction, desire, compulsion
  4. Anger — Destructive force, offensive projection
  5. Greed — Acquisition, absorption, containment
  6. Safety — Protection, warding, shielding
  7. Forbidden — Reality-altering expressions with catastrophic consequences

Wordcasting follows a compositional structure directly paralleling UL:

The Elemental System

Gameplay: Magic Crafting Interface

The in-game magic system uses a drag-and-drop Universal Symbols interface to create spells:

  • Energy costs scale with spell complexity
  • Unintended consequences for imprecise casting
  • Grimoire — personal spell book recording discovered/created spells
  • Unstable Universal Magic — using too much near Dimensional Rifts can have unforeseen consequences

Higher karma amplifies the power and reliability of Universal Magic.
